AND AUTHOR INFORMATION
DATASÒ
ADDRESS is an address matching program that was first programmed by Mark
J. Nigrini in 1997. The
first version of the program was written in SAS.
The program was first used in 1998 and all subsequent versions of
the program were written in SAS until this most recent version for
Microsoft Excel.
The program seeks to match addresses by stripping away all
characters from address fields except for the digits in the street
address and the zip (or postal) code.
This means that the programs will detect a match even with
different spellings of the street name, different indicators for a
subunit (suite, apartment, #), and different spellings of the city or
state. The program will
also match addresses that are coincidences.
For example,
123 N. Main Str.
Cincinnati OH
45201
Will be matched with,
123 North Main Road
Cinncinati Ohio
45201
Because both addresses will be reduced to 123-45201 (the street
number and zip code). Note
that both addresses will also be matched with 123 Ravine Street,
Cincinnati, Ohio, 45201 even though the match on street number (123) is
a coincidence.
